About the College and Its Leadership

The College of Arts and Sciences offers all the advantages of a liberal arts college within a flagship public university located in a vibrant and growing capital city.

The College of Arts and Sciences is home to academic disciplines that span the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. It is also home to some 8,000 students and more than 450 tenure-track faculty. The largest and most academically diverse college at the University of South Carolina, it is the intellectual, artistic, scientific and instructional core of the university.

As a college, we teach nearly half of all courses at the university and offer over 100 majors and nearly 60 minors to undergraduates along with approximately 60 graduate and professional degrees. An essential component of the Carolina Core, the arts and sciences are also powerful incubators of human curiosity and creativity for the entire university. In the classroom and beyond—through study abroad, lecture series, internships, research opportunities, and more—the college opens doors to the world for its students, preparing them to serve as future leaders of our increasingly globalized society. Graduates of the college go on to make up a critical element of the social, economic, educational, political, and religious fabric of our state, region, and nation. The college thus has a lasting impact, directly or indirectly, on millions of lives.
