I was borned and raised on Indian Creek and, and my mother died when I was twelve hours old, and my father, he raised me and my two sisters, and we had a hard time, and we had to hoe corn and work out in the field and had to walk two mile to school and, and we had a hard time getting down, it was snowy and cold and bad, and we had to walk all the time, and all the other kids up there, they had to walk to school and just had a one-room school and a, a stove in it and, and we had liked to have froze in the wintertime when it was cold and bad and just had one teacher and about six or seven grades and, and we always worked hard and, and the people up there, they farmed and uh, in the summertime, and in the wintertime they’d go hunting and they’d fish and kill squirrels and rabbits and all kinds of games and had a fine time.
