sash saw noun A thin, narrow saw held in a frame and powered by water.
1945 O'Dell Old Mills 2 Occasionally there would be connected with the wheat and flour mill a “sash saw,” which was something like a cross-cut saw but straight on the teeth side. This was fashioned in a sash or frame and propelled from a wheel below which sent the saw up and down. 1964 Clarkson Lumbering in WV 369 = water-powered saw wherein the saw is attached to a heavy sash that in turn is run by pitman attached to a water wheel.
