school noun A school session.

1939 Hall Coll (Little Cataloochee NC) They was a woman went in there, and she taught two schools and said the men, women, and children packed the lumber out. 1956 Hall Coll (Cosby TN) The first school I went to was a little old log house up on Cosby [Creek]. That’s up in the Park now. I just went a couple of schools. The schools were short, two or three weeks. Webster’s Blue Back Speller and Sanders First Reader were about what we had. 1985 Irwin Alex Stewart 52 I went to school right down here at Panther Creek, I believe it was the third school that I ever went to, and a man by the name of Haskew Fletcher was the teacher. 1989 Matewan OHP-9 Anna Dotson, she taught one, one school, and Fred Hackney taught one school, so that's all I can remember of it.
