Rebecca Boyd Named Finalist In Beaufort International Film Festival

SVAD Undergraduate Coordinator Rebecca Boyd is headed to the Beaufort International Film Festival.  Her script In Spite of It All is a finalist in the screenplay competition.  It has also recently been a finalist in the Nashville Film Festival Screenplay Competition, a quarterfinalist (top 5%) in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship Competition, and an Austin Film Festival Second Rounder.

In Spite of It All is loosely based on the love story of Boyd’s great great grandparents - Irish potato famine immigrants who met in an American Civil War hospital.  The script was described by a Nicholl reader as “just brimming with Irish wit and sass [...] the most playful and lighthearted Civil War story I’ve ever read.”  An Austin Film Festival reader remarked that “The story has a Gone With the Wind type of romantic feel to it, but felt fresh. There's nothing like this coming out of Hollywood right now.”

Boyd serves as a academic advisor at the School of Visual Art and Design and teaches in the Media Arts program.
