Media Arts Professor Wins Prize for Augmented Reality Exhibit

Professor Simon Tarr won first prize for his augmented reality series "Reconnaissance Studies" in the juried New Media competition at the University Film and Video Association conference in Los Angeles. The work draws on imagery from from strategic reconnaissance maps from the Allied invasion of Normandy in World War II, combining traditional ink-based drawing with augmented reality to allow viwers to point their phones and tablets at the drawings to examine hidden layers and animations of the artwork in a digital space.
