Four senior dance performance majors will see their original work take center stage, as the UofSC Department of Theatre and Dance presents its Student Choreography Showcase at the UofSC Dance Studios. Directed by dance instructor Cindy Flach, the showcase features four original works conceived and choreographed by dance students. Each of the pieces were originally premiered in the Fall 2016 Student Choreography Showcase, and were selected to be further developed for this concert.
Moving the pieces forward from the fall concert allows the students to further develop and lengthen their work, says Flach. “It really helps mature the pieces, and it gives the choreographers more time to think and analyze what they’ve done before,” Flach said. “The extra time spent in the studio allows the work to become deeper on numerous levels.”
The performance will take place in-studio, marking the first time that showcase dancers will perform on the same level as the audience, rather than on a stage. Flach believes the more intimate space will give the audience a newfound appreciation of the dancers’ athleticism.
The event will feature performances by Mary Scott, Grace Hartford, Lauren Bobo, and Brandy White.
