The primary mission of the University of South Carolina Columbia is the education of the state’s citizens through teaching, research, creative activity and community engagement. The USC Dance Conservatory, now in its 20th year, is an afterschool community outreach program committed to the training of young dancers from their first steps to the more advanced levels.
Our primary mission is to furnish our community students with a strong ballet foundation. Instilling a sense of personal accomplishment through a rigorous culture commitment to excellence, as well as a love and appreciation for the art of dance are also important goals.
Our faculty teach a unified curriculum developed by Marcia Dale Weary at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Our instructors carefully guide the dancers through each exercise, each lesson and each level in order that they learn the correct technique from the start. We offer small class sizes with assistants, often our talented USC Dance majors, so all conservatory dancers receive personalized attention and hands-on instruction in this instructional laboratory environment.
The USC Dance Conservatory is hosted by the USC Department of Theatre and Dance in our first-class facility and operates under the artistic direction of USC Professor Susan Anderson, also Head the USC Dance Program. USC Dance Conservatory Administrative Director Kerri Lambert assists Professor Anderson.
