French at USC

Bienvenue!
Welcome to the French program at the University of South Carolina, where you can study the language, literatures and cultures of France and the Francophone world, leading to both undergraduate and graduate degrees in French.
Whether preparing a major or a minor, or simply interested in improving your French, you can choose from a broad range of dynamic, innovative courses to acquire basic and advanced skills and knowledge. You can, for example, learn French collaboratively with students in France, act in a French play, debate the latest French on-line news, review recent films from Africa, explore current trends in children’s literature, put together a French CV or even (finally) master that French “R.”
All this you can do while living in the French House or studying abroad. In addition to established programs in Mulhouse and Tours, you can work with USC's Study Abroad Office to find a program that matches your desires. You can even apply for significant financial help from one or more of our numerous scholarships for study in France or other French-speaking countries.
If you’re interested in starting or enhancing a career teaching French, you can enroll in our new Undergraduate Foreign Language Teacher Certification program, where you’ll get hands-on experience through supervised teacher-training. Or if you’ve already got an undergraduate degree, you can prepare a MA or a MAT in French, during which you can apply to teach introductory French at USC (and get paid for it) as a GTA and to teach English and live in France as a lecteur or lectrice at the Université de Haute-Alsace. Please explore our webpages to find out more about our faculty and programs, and contact the following faculty members directly should you have any questions.
