Undergraduate Degree Programs
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers undergraduate majors in Classics, Comparative Literature, French, German, Russian, and Spanish, all leading to the bachelor of arts degree. If you are interested in teaching, an Undergraduate Foreign Language Teacher Certification Program is also available. The department also offers minors in ancient Greek, classical studies, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish.
All language majors and minors are strongly encouraged to study abroad for a month, a semester or a year, in one of the many programs under direct departmental supervision or vetted by the Office of International Programs for Students. Scholarships and financial aid are available for many of these.
At home in Columbia, there is an active student language life including various language clubs, language houses (French and Spanish), local foreign language films and festivals, and annual events such as the French, German and upon occasion, Spanish plays.
