Call for Papers

The organizing committee of the 2015 Conference on Transatlantic Studies: Intersections of Memory and Violence in the Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian World welcomes proposals for papers in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:

  • Legacies of authoritarian regimes
  • Drug trafficking and crime fiction novels
  • Human trafficking
  • Literature and testimony
  • Human rights and social movements
  • The boom of memory and violence in contemporary literature and cinema
  • Exile and memory
  • Language policy & endangered ethnic languages
  • Performing memory and trauma
  • Spaces of memory: museums, memorials, and urban art
  • Systemic violence


Please submit abstracts of no more than 250 words for individual papers, and panel proposal abstracts on a specific theme of no more than 750 words to Dr. Raúl Diego Rivera Hernández [rhernand@mailbox.sc.edu] or Dr. Mercedes López Rodríguez [lopezrod@mailbox.sc.edu] by December 1st., 2014.

Researchers interested in organizing panel proposals are invited to submit an abstract from/for each one of the participants.
