French Cultural Studies
Assistant or Associate Professor
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the French Program (http://www.cas.sc.edu/dllc/) at the University of South Carolina announces a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in eighteenth and/or nineteenth century French Cultural Studies, with a strong interest in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary studies. This position will complement existing faculty strengths in film, translation, postcolonial, gender, theatre, medieval and early modern studies, children's literature and intercultural communication. Teaching responsibilities include two courses per semester, and offer the opportunity to teach in the nationally-ranked Comparative Literature program. A Ph.D. is required, in hand, by August 15, 2013. Evidence of teaching experience at the collegiate level is also required. Willingness to teach in university-wide interdisciplinary programs such as Film and Media Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies is considered desirable.

Spanish Transatlantic Studies
Associate Professor
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Spanish Program (http://www.cas.sc.edu/dllc/) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor position in Spanish. We are looking for a dynamic scholar with an international reputation and an outstanding record of teaching and publication. The ideal candidate should be an expert in bridging traditional Hispanic/Spanish studies and new fields of inquiry on Latin America and/or the Spanish speaking diaspora in the United States. We expect this hire to play a leadership role in the program and the department as we develop our new doctoral program focused on the interaction between Spain and Latin America. Teaching responsibilities include two courses per semester, with assignments in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Spanish.

Colonial Spanish American Literature
Assistant Professor
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Spanish Program (http://www.cas.sc.edu/dllc/) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Colonial Spanish American Literature. We are seeking a scholar with evidence of a strong research agenda, and with native or near-native fluency in Spanish who will be expected to develop our recently created PhD in Spanish and its focus on transatlantic and cultural studies. Teaching responsibilities include two courses per semester, with assignments in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Spanish. Required qualifications are a Ph.D. in Spanish by August 2013, and evidence of successful college/university teaching.

Assistant Professor
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and the Chinese Program (http://www.cas.sc.edu/dllc/) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of Chinese and Comparative Literature. Primary fields of expertise in the field of pre-modern Chinese and Comparative Literature; secondary field, Asian, World, or European literature and/or theory. Preference given to candidates whose primary field of expertise is Tang and/or Song Dynasty literature." Teaching responsibilities: two courses per semester in Chinese language and our nationally-ranked Comparative Literature program. Ph.D. in Chinese or Comparative Literature in hand by August 2013. Native or near native fluency in Chinese and English required.

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is proud to be home to the tenth ranked public PhD in Comparative Literature in the nation (NRC 2010) and to a new PhD in Spanish. We are also home to internationally known scholars in language acquisition, children’s literature, Chinese, Classics, French, German, Russian, and Arabic. The department provides instruction in 14 languages and offers undergraduate majors in 6 different programs, teacher certification in 4 language programs, and Master’s degrees in Comparative Literature, French, German, and Spanish. It also works as an active partner with the MA and PhD programs in the College’s Linguistics Program.
