This fellowship will enable Makala to spend a month in Philadelphia later this fall working at both places, primarily looking at antebellum American printers’, publishers’, and type founders’ records. His project has the same working title as his dissertation: “Print on Demand: Stereotyping and Electrotyping in the United States Printing Trades, 1812-1845.”
