Dr. Holcomb is a Professor of English, and his research interests include composition and rhetoric, stylistics, history of rhetoric, and humor. He recently co-authored one textbook on style ("Performing Prose: The Study and Practice of Style in Composition") and another on linguistics ("Understanding Language Though Humor"). Dr. Holcomb also authored "Mirth Making: The Rhetorical Discourse on Jesting in Early Modern England," and his other scholarly work has appeared in such journals as "Rhetoric Review," "Rhetoric Society Quarterly," and "Humor: International Journal on Humor Research." He enjoys directing First-Year English and working with its dynamite administrators and instructors. This year the department will be include online versions of ENGL 101 and ENGL 102, electronic portfolios, collaboration with the English Department’s Digital Learning Initiative, and explorations of new opportunities for assessing instructor efforts in the classroom.
