Graduate Teaching Assistant
First Year English
University of South Carolina

Greg Deinert (M.A. University of South Carolina, 2016) is a second-year Ph.D. student in English with a focus on 20th and 21st-century American fiction. His research interests include postmodern and contemporary fiction, postcolonial and narrative theory, and the impact of global capital on the development of the novel. Specifically, Greg is interested in questioning the growing body of “transnational” or “global” literature, exploring how these authors present alternatives to traditional political and socio-economic conceptions of a center-periphery dichotomy. So far, Greg’s work focuses on authors such as Daniel Alarcón, Don DeLillo, Junot Díaz, John Keene, Rachel Kushner, Téa Obreht, and Thomas Pynchon.
