John is a doctoral student specializing in mid to late nineteenth century and twentieth century British and Irish literature. His current research includes post-colonial analyses of the effects of the 1916 Easter Rising on the artistic aesthetic of James Joyce and, separately, the inherent psychological constraints of the Bildungsroman genre. John received a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte and a M.A. in English from Winthrop University where he served as the Assistant Director of the university writing center. Outside of academics, John has also spent the past six years working as a production manager and sound engineer for regional and national performers at music venues and festivals around the Southeast. He loves 80’s movies, music ranging from bluegrass to punk, incredibly dry British humor, and traveling.
