2015-2016 Winner

Christy Friend Award for Best 102 Essay

First-Year English is pleased to announce the winner of the 2015-2016 Christy Friend essay contest, awarded to the writer of an outstanding English 102 essay.

This year's winner is Laura Bones for her essay “The Intergenerational Effects of Indian Boarding Schools on Native American Communities." Laura is a Business-Finance major from Charlotte, North Carolina. According to Laura, "My favorite part of English 102 was listening to everyone's research presentations at the end of the semester. They were engaging and I learned so much in such a short period of time." In addition to her own hard work, Laura attributes her essay's success to the help provided to her by her First-Year English instructor: "I could not have done it without the guidance of my instructor Ms. Wright! She is so knowledgeable and is always willing to help her students." Read Laura's award-winning essay by downloading the file below.

Congratulations and best of luck to Laura!
