GEOINT Certificate Goes Live!
The University of South Carolina Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Undergraduate Certificate Program received its accreditation from the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) at a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 26, 2015. On hand for the ceremony were Dr. Darryl Murdock, USGIF's vice president of professional development, and Dr. Max Baber, USGIF's Director of Academic Programs.
For several years, a number of mathematical, scientific, acquisition, and analysis disciplines have been converging as components of a larger discipline: geospatial intelligence (GEOINT). GEOINT has become the cornerstone of our national and homeland security through its place at the functional center of many diverse intelligence methods. The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) was formed to bring together the many disciplines involved in the geospatial intelligence sector to exchange ideas, share best practices and promote the education and importance of a national geospatial intelligence agenda. The new GEOINT certificate offered by USC’s Geography Department and accredited by USGIF prepares students to couple their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with their knowledge of geographic information technologies and human and physical geography to confront challenges such as disaster response, emergency management, and military operations.
