SCEMD Mitigation Plan Risk Assessment Update Project
Principal Investigator: Dr. Susan L. Cutter
The South Carolina State Hazard Mitigation Plan (SHMP), which was approved by FEMA in 2013 must be updated every five years to reflect changes in the State's risk profile, hazard history, and priorities. In support of the 2018 update, as well as the State's desire to seek Enhanced Plan status from FEMA, SCEMD has received a grant from FEMA to update and enhance the risk assessment portion of the plan. This project supported that effort in three ways:
1. Updates of county hazard profiles originally created in 2009 by HVRI researchers.
2. Creation of a centralized inventory of prior mitigation projects that can be easily updated.
3. Improve the current classification for dam risk (beyond the regulatory) for consideration.
The South Carolina Hazard Mitigation Plan Update is available online from SCEMD.
