Teaches United States history and has a special interest in the Civil War era, the American South, and the U.S. and the Atlantic world.
Professor Doyle teaches undergraduate courses on nationalism, the American history survey, and a course on Faulkner and Southern History. He also teaches graduate seminars on US history in the nineteenth century.

A book of essays on American Civil Wars: The United States, Latin America, Europe, and the Crisis of the 186Os is forthcoming with the University of North Carolina Press. I am beginning work on a sequel to The Cause of All Nations called Viva Lincoln! It will examine the response to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln around the world and how this helped spark an international resurgence of republicanism and emancipation.
