Research Fellowship Awards

The call for IAAR fellowship applications is now open! Applications are due by 11:59 PM on March 31, 2017. Awards will be announced around May 5, 2017. Good luck!

Each year, the Institute offers a limited number of small awards for USC faculty and graduate students, providing both funds to support projects in any area of African or African American Research and access to an office at the Institute for the 2017 - 2018 academic year. Awards range from $1,500 to $2,500 per project.

The primary focus of these awards is to encourage research and creative activities to generate projects that will enter the mainstream, raising public awareness and having the potential to secure additional funding for extended study. The emphasis of these awards is upon interdisciplinary research and groups or individuals may apply.

USC faculty and graduate students on all campuses are eligible to submit proposals. Grants will be awarded to individuals or teams of individuals from two or more units who present complete proposals. The awards will be peer reviewed, by a panel, for selection and distributed based on available funds.

The fellowship application and guidelines can be found below. Applications for the 2016-2017 year are due March 31, 2017 at 11:59 PM. Awards will be announced May 5, 2017. Please contact any member of our staff if you are interested in applying for an Institute Research / Creative Project Award.
