We will examine the language contact between Mayan and Spanish in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, with a focus on comparisons with some regional varieties in the Southeast United States. Participants will learn to identify the major features of Yucatan Spanish, and we will discuss the social factors that are determining the future direction of the dialect. Participants should read attached article prior to their attendance.
