Annual Invitational Exhibition
Joining institutions across the city of Columbia in marking 1963 as a seminal year in our nation’s progress toward a more perfect union, on September 11, 2013, the University of South Carolina will launch a series of events honoring the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of its Columbia campus. This occasion has become an opportunity for McKissick invited artists to reflect on a seminal story of southern life—the civil rights movement--that forever changed the culture of the college campus, the southeast and the nation. If You Miss Me at the Back illustrates how the 1960s civil rights movement reshaped the southern experience—our communities, culture and environment.
