Internships are arranged through consultation with students and staff at appropriate museums throughout the nation. This experience allows students to select an institution that supports their career goals, as well as assume professional level responsibilities and receive training and guidance from museum professionals. Emphasis is placed on understanding the overall operation of the museum, its mission, and its relationship to the community it serves. Students already employed in a museum will have the opportunity to work on a specific project or problem within that institution.
Recent students in the Museum Management program have completed internships at the Columbia Museum of Art; Daniel Boone Homestead (PA); Fort Vancouver National Historic Site (WA); Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park (TX); Historic Columbia Foundation; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (CA); Magnolia Mound Plantation (LA); McKissick Museum; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MA); South Carolina State Museum; and the Ward M. Canaday Center, University of Toledo (OH).
