Southern Rhythms at McKissick: 2015 Gala Art Exhibition and Sale

December 4, 2015, 2nd Floor, North Gallery

For two decades, McKissick Museum has organized an annual gala art exhibition and sale to support artists and to raise funds for Museum programs.

This year, McKissick presents Southern Rhythms at McKissick: 2015 Gala Art Exhibition and Sale, a tribute to the tremendous role music plays in our lives. The Gala event complements McKissick’s other current exhibition, Heard at Every Turn: Traditional Music in South Carolina. The third exhibition in McKissick’s Diverse Voices series devoted to displaying, interpreting, and celebrating traditional culture in South Carolina and the Southeast, Heard at Every Turn is the first exhibit to address the complex history that shaped contemporary traditional music in the Palmetto state.

As an extension of the programming for this exhibition, Southern Rhythms at McKissick invited artists to reflect on the music that enriches southern life. What does music mean to us? How does music shape our lives or the community from which we draw inspiration?

McKissick’s fundraiser gala art sale is set for Friday, December 4, from 7 – 10 p.m. in McKissick Museum, when all of the artwork will be available for purchase. For tickets and information contact McKissick Museum at 803-777-7251.
