Museum Management Certificate
The graduate certificate Museum Management prepares students for leadership roles in museums and cultural institutions around the nation.
The Museum Management Certificate program, founded in 1982, utilizes the holdings and facilities of the College’s McKissick Museum as a laboratory in teaching best practices. We prepare students for careers in museums and other nonprofits that collect, preserve and exhibit cultural materials. The McKissick Museum has attracted funding from national organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services in the creation of a number of award-winning exhibits.
Our students receive specialized practical training to complement their firm founding in the academic subject area of their choice. McKissick adheres to the professional standards established by the American Alliance of Museums, while also providing a source of knowledgeable, trained personnel for the many rapidly growing regional institutions.
Beyond the coursework and internship requirements of the program, students are encouraged to participate in professional development activities during their time at USC. McKissick partners with local museums and other organizations to provide students with real-world exhibit experience.
