Magnetic Measurement Facility

The Magnetic Measurement Facility is operated by Hanno zur Loye.  The facility has a high precision SQUID magnetometer which is capable of measuring the magnetization of solid samples as a function of applied field (up to 7T) and temperature (down to 1.8 K).  The magnetometer has an oven insert which is capable of reaching 800 K.  Quantitative measurements can typically be performed on samples weighing 15 mg or greater and qualitative measurements can often be performed on samples weighing as little as 1 mg.  Services are provided on a fee-per-service basis and a mail-in

The Irresistible Ones

This year we have been commemorating the integration of the University of South Carolina.  We have had numerous programs, lectures, films and visiting artists.   On April 11, we dedicated a commemorative garden beside the main entrance gates to our university.  Pearl Fryar, the noted topiary artist, designed his living sculpture in honor of the three students who led the way--- Robert Anderson;   Henrie Monteith, and James Solomon.
