The South Carolina Society for Philosophy was founded to serve the interests and needs of philosophy students and professionals around the State of South Carolina. We meet once a year, generally sometime in February or early March, at various universities or colleges around the state (usually rotating the meeting location from year to year among coastal, midlands, and upstate campuses). At this yearly conference, there are usually some special sessions with invited speakers, but the bulk of the sessions are based on submitted papers. There are no annual dues, but members pay a registration fee to attend the annual meeting. Recently we have been holding joint meetings every other year with the North Carolina Philosophy Society, alternating meetings between South Carolina and North Carolina locations.

Additional Conference Information

Lodging
We have arranged for blocks of rooms at the Charleston Historic District Courtyard by Marriott ($229/night including parking) and the Indigo Inn ($179/night, not including parking). Both of these hotels are within several blocks of the College of Charleston. Our hold on the block of rooms at the Marriott has technically expired, so the discounted rate may no longer be available. A more economical option, not within walking distance, is the Sweetgrass Best Western on Savannah Highway ($59/night). To book a room at the Courtyard by Marriott, click here. You can find the contact information for the Indigo Inn at here. Be sure to mention the South Carolina Society for Philosophy to get the discounted rate. Contact information for the Sweetgrass Best Western is here
Schedule
The conference will begin at 1pm on Friday, March 8th. The last talks end at 6pm on Saturday, March 9th, after which there will be a banquet at a local Charleston restaurant. The program is here. Details about the banquet will be provided at the conference.

SCSP E-mail List

SCSPLIST@LISTSERV.SC.EDU is an electronic discussion list for SCSP members. This e-mail list may be used to post announcements (calls for papers, conference anouncements, job announcements, etc.) regarding philosophy activities and events which may be of general interest to all SCSP members. Members can use it to announce events at their local institutions that may draw participants from other SC locales. To subscribe to this list, send an e-mail message to listserv@listserv.sc.edu with the following single line typed in the body of the message:

SUBSCRIBE SCSPLIST YourFirstName YourLastName
As a simple security measure, you will receive an e-mail message asking you to confirm your request to join the list (just follow the given directions). You will then be notified that you are subscribed to the list. You will also receive a standard USC listserv message with instructions on how e-mail lists work (how to post messages to the list; how to remove your name from the list, should you want to do so at some later point; etc.).
