Professor Charles Finocchiaro receives Pi Sigma Alpha Award

Professor Charles Finocchiaro received the Pi Sigma Alpha Award for the best paper presented at the 2013 Southern Political Science Association annual meeting.

It was for a paper coauthored with Scott MacKenzie of UC-Davis, and builds on his work on historical congressional legislation that has been seeded by a Provost Grant. This is the same project that won the CQ Press Award for the best paper on legislative politics presented at the 2012 APSA meeting, and examines the impact of electoral rules (such as the secret ballot and primary elections) on the motivations and activities of members of Congress, particularly their sponsorship of bills that provide an opportunity to claim credit with their constituents and thereby increase their chances for reelection.
