Russian

Russian is a Slavic language spoken primarily in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.  It is an unofficial but widely spoken language in other countries that were once part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  Russian is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. The College of Arts & Sciences offers the only undergraduate Russian major in the state of South Carolina.  Many students choose to double major in Russian and another field, often International Studies, business, or one of the sciences.

As a newly capitalist country, Russia today presents exciting job opportunities.  Western business, law firms, consulting firms, and banks have established branches in Russia.  U.S. companies active in Russia include Motorola, Ford, GM, and MTV.  University of South Carolina graduates of the Russian program have found employment in government service, business, the Peace Corps, teaching English, and working for non-governmental organizations in Russia.

Undergraduate: B.A.

The Russian Program offers a range of courses through the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures.  Students are given guidance in exploring Study Abroad options including a new three-week program during the spring in Ufa, Russia.
