The Maritime Research Division offers many opportunities to get involved with us from workshops and classes to special events. Please see the links below for specifics on the education and outreach offered through the Division.
Our Artifact Identification Workshop consists of a mixture of lectures and hands-on activities designed to help identify a variety of artifacts found in South Carolina.
This course is offered in two parts. It is designed for any sport diver who wants the chance to get more involved with underwater archaeology.
The Maritime Research Division is available to give lectures, presentations, and programs to your group on a variety of topics related to South Carolina maritime archaeological heritage.
The Division often has a number of small exhibits in museums around the state regarding our research.
The Division prides itself on our research and education and outreach. MRD is often asked to share that information with both the professional and avocational world. Each year Division staff attends a number of conferences to speak about or work. Please see our Calendar and News pages for any upcoming conferences.
Once a month, the Division hosts "Wing Night." Wing Night is an event where Division staff, sport divers, family, and friends can gather to share dive stories, identify artifacts and fossils, and have a good time. Wing Nights are offered in both Charleston and Columbia.
The Maritime Research Division holds our annual Maritime Heritage Awareness Oyster Roast each year to promote preservation and research of South Carolina maritime heritage.
