Dr. Brashears received her Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Arizona. Her research is situated at the nexus of social psychology and inequality, firmly rooted within the microsociological traditions of social structure and personality and structural symbolic interaction, while simultaneously directed at wider issue of stratification. She is primarily interested in how one’s position(s) in the stratification hierarchy affects identities, individual outcomes such as self-esteem and academic achievement, and attitudes. Within this broader focus, her research centers on social psychology, the sociology of education, race/ethnicity, gender, and the sociology of work.
