Tabitha double majored in history and political science with a Spanish minor from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her honors thesis was an oral history project on World War II love stories and the war’s effect on marriage plans during the war years. She received a masters from the University of Southern Mississippi as well in cultural anthropology with a sociology minor. Her masters thesis was qualitative, too, and on Hurricane Katrina and the loss of home. Tabitha also received a graduate certificate in Women and Gender Studies from the University of South Carolina. Her current research is about religion and hooking up in college. She also has done disaster research on the 1,000 year flood in Columbia in October 2015. Tabitha is a trained doula and has helped laboring women welcome over 30 babies into the world. She enjoys traveling the world, spending time with her chihuahuas, teaching sociology 101, and volunteering. Tabitha is an advisor to USC’s Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, which won 2016 Excellence in AAC Service Award, an international award given to only one advisory committee. Tabitha co-chaired a service project that brought 20,000 free books to children in Columbia in February 2016 and is the 2015-2016 recipient of the Brenda Williams Hellams Award for Leadership.
