Jennifer Coffey and Amanda Nelson have been awarded Magellan Scholarships for Summer/Fall 2011, and will commence a year-long study of Intergenerational Dance with Dr. Mila Parrish. Their proposal, Intergenerational Dance: Reaching, Connecting and Building Community, will look at the ways communities are changed when movement activities are used to share life experiences, create new awareness of the self and of others. The interdisciplinary dance curricula will center on the topic of compassion so as to bring rich and engaging conversations and artistic inspiration for participants as many of them are concerned with concepts of relevance, connotation of meaning, and political and social influence. Coffey and Nelson will attend the Dance and the Child Conference in Dallas, Texas this summer as part of their research study.
