Dance Program Position Open -- Instructor of Ballet


Position:  Instructor of Ballet -Distinguished Artist in Residence - Fall 2015

Job Description:  The Dance Program within the Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a non-tenure track, Instructor of Dance appointment to begin in August 2015. Responsibilities of the position include teaching ballet technique, pointe, restaging and/or choreographing original works for dance program productions, and attending program and department faculty meetings. Additional responsibilities may include teaching one or more of the following: improvisation and composition, choreography, dance pedagogy, somatic practices based upon expertise, and/or supervising student creative/research projects. This is a nine-month, annual appointment contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. The teaching load will equal nine credit hours per semester, and the salary is $42,000.  

 

Qualifications:  Candidates should have a national/international profile, extensive experience as a performing artist, significant record of teaching in the field, extensive training and experience in the area of ballet, substantial background in staging repertory, and/or an MFA in dance. Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.

Dance Program: The University of South CarolinaDance Program is part of theDepartment of Theatre and Dance within the College of Arts and Sciences. The BA Degree in Dance includes an emphasis in Performance/Choreography and Dance Education. Annual performances include 4 main stage and two student-choreographed showcases. The Dance Program serves 85 majors and 40 minors and offers over 65 courses in dance that span the breadth of the discipline. The USC Dance Program maintains a national reputation for its strong training in ballet and was recently accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance.

 

University: The University of South Carolina is home to more than 200 years of history and tradition, rising from a single building in 1805 on what would become the heart of the campus, the Horseshoe. The 11 buildings that now make up the Horseshoe frame a lush lawn that is an irresistible gathering place. The University is expanding west toward the Congaree River in support of its research initiatives in nanotechnology, health sciences, Future Fuels™, the environment, and information and knowledge technologies. Three separate sites, each specializing in its own research area, will comprise this new innovation district, called Innovista. It will initially cover 500,000 square feet spread over about six city blocks but is projected to grow to five million square feet, mixing University and private research buildings, parking garages, and commercial and residential units around a public plaza called.
