Design Professor Stages New Work in Cardiff, Wales

Professor Nic Ularu premiered his new, original work "Fusions," which he also directed, at the World Stage Design Conference in September.

Professor Nic Ularu has recently returned from the World Stage Design conference in Cardiff, Wales, where he premiered his new, original work Fusions, which he also directed.

Produced by Uniart Theatre Company and presented at Cardiff's Richard Burton Theatre, Fusions is a performance installation and a metaphorical environment,  which examines with humor the relationship between body, imagination and the influence of media on daily life. Fusions - one of 30 productions at the conference (and the only one representing the USA) - was selected from more than 250 submissions from all over the world. Ularu received a grant from the University of SC College of Arts and Sciences and from the Vice-President of Research to produce the work.

Joining Nic in Cardiff were MFA Design students Vera DuBose (Costume Designer) and Meredith Hart (Scenic Designer).  Cast in the production were theatre alum Elizabeth Gray ("E.G.") Engle and Paul Kaufmann.

The World Stage Design conference is a celebration of international performance design from the worlds of theatre, opera and dance.  The conference takes place every four years; this year it was held from September 5 – 14 by the Welsh Royal College of Music and Drama.
