This site serves primarily as an online portfolio of my design work but should also present a snapshot of my university teaching and administrative career.

My scene and lighting designs have been seen at such theatres as the Folger Shakespeare Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Florida Repertory Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Theatre Virginia, Florida Studio Theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Arizona Broadway Theatre, Florida Stage, Charlotte Repertory Theatre, Playhouse on the Square, Drury Lane Theatre, Heritage Repertory Theatre, Veggie Tales Live National Tour, The Lost Colony, World Stage Exposition in Toronto, Wall Street Danceworks and others. I am a member of the national designers union, United Scenic Artist, Local 829 in scene and lighting design.

My university teaching currently rotates through graduate and undergraduate courses in Lighting Design, Scene Design, and Computer Assisted Design for the Theatre in both technical drawing and computer rendering. I served as the Chair of the Department of Theatre for three terms, totaling 12 ½ years. The first two terms were from August 2004 to June 2014 and the third term started during the COVID-19 pandemic in January of 2021 and ended June 2023.

The department offers the BA, MA, MAT, MFA (Acting, Scene Design, Costume Design and Lighting Design) in Theatre and the BA Dance with tracks in Performance / Choreography and Dance Education. The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD) and is a member of the University / Resident Theatre Association (U/RTA). I hope you will find out more by exploring our department's website at the University of South Carolina's Department of Theatre and Dance

I have been an active member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) since 2007. Founded in 1965, NAST is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with approximately 193 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for theatre and theatre-related disciplines and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other theatre- related endeavors.

My work with NAST includes my current appointment as the Immediate Past President and Member of the Board of Directors. I served as President of the association from 2020-2023. I served on the NAST Commission on Accreditation for ten years (2008- 2018) and Chaired the Commission for three of those years. I have Chaired more than 24 on-site Visiting Evaluation Teams to institutions across the United States and served as a consultant for more than 6 institutions starting in 2007.  I Co-Chaired the Training Workshop for New Visiting Evaluators for 6 years.

As an officer of NAST, I have also had the privilege to serve on the Council of Arts Accrediting Associations (CAAA). CAAA is a forum for policy discussions regarding the arts, education, and accreditation; a means for developing advisory documents, analyses, and positions when common action among the members seems appropriate; and a mechanism for formal conversation and coordination among the members and with other national and international organizations.

My interests include wilderness backpacking, trout fishing, swimming, carpentry, fixing things and I am an avid history/biography reader.

I live with my wife Betsy, daughter Liza, labs Otter and Kokomo, and cats Toulouse and Berlioz near Columbia, South Carolina
