At a recent conference in Paris, Assistant Professor Peter Duffy (Head of the University of SC MAT in Theatre Program) was voted onto the executive council of IDEA, the International Drama and Education Association. Peter will be the Director of Research for the esteemed organization through 2016. He is the fourth American to serve on IDEA's executive council over its 21-year history.
IDEA is an international organization which promotes, researches, and advocates for drama in education through practice and policy initiatives. Its members are culturally diverse drama, theatre and education practitioners, artists, pedagogues and teachers, from around 90 countries who are united in their commitment to making drama / theater and education accessible, significant and present in the lives of children and young people everywhere. The organization works routinely with UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) on matters pertaining to arts in education and drama in education as well as community-based drama interventions.
"One must be invited to join IDEA and there is a rigorous vetting process," says Duffy about the achievement. "This is a huge honor and a major undertaking as I will now be advising on IDEA sponsored research projects."
