Wagner 200 is a wide-ranging, London-based festival to celebrate the bicentenary of Richard Wagner’s birth. It opens on 22 May 2013 with a Wagner Birthday Concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra and a stellar cast under Andrew Davis at the Royal Festival Hall. It continues with further concerts, screenings of opera performances, public masterclasses, symposia, a curated film season, an exhibition and much more, at leading venues including the Royal Opera House, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Kings Place and British Library.

Zurich Festival: Treibhaus Wagner
The Zurich Festival is putting Richard Wagner’s Zurich years in the spotlight in celebration of his 200th birthday with a programme of events based around the theme “Wagner Greenhouse”. The line-up includes musical theatre, opera, plays, concerts, exhibitions, debates and much more. The programme’s centrepiece is the premiere of Richard Wagner – Wie ich Welt wurde by Hans Neuenfels at the Schiffbau Theatre.

Rheingold on the Rhine
200 years after the birth of Richard Wagner, his celebrated opera Das Rheingold and the symphonic show The Wagner Experience will be performed in and on the River Rhine. In July of 2013, the Rhineland will be redefined as an opera scene. A ship of 135 meters long will be transporting a precious cargo; the hold is a complete musical theatre! Rheingold on the Rhine is an international production of the opera Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner and the symphonic show The Wagner Experience. Eight performances of the opera and the symphonic show will take place in the hold of the barge that successively will visit Koblenz, Duisburg, Arnhem, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. On board: ninety orchestral musicians of the Utrecht Student Concert, a full cast and crew and 500 guests. The ship serves as a fully equipped floating musical theatre!
