Brown Bag Lunch Series

These sessions will be less than an hour in length and will include various topics that may not be included in our other training courses. We intend to bring experts in the GIS field from the University community as well as local GIS leaders and practitioners throughout South Carolina.


GIS Topical Courses

The Campus GIS Program and the Department of Geography are currently developing course content that will cover various geospatial topics.  These sessions will vary in length, depending on the topic.  Generally the courses will be between one to two hours in length.  If there is a particular topic that you would like to be included with these sessions, email Geoff Schwitzgebel and we will develop some content for you.

GIS Extended Courses (currently being updated)

These courses cover multiple topics and will get you acclimated with GIS concepts as well as expose you to experience with GIS software.  These classes will typically be two to four hours.  The GIS program also puts on a GIS Institute during the summer for one week.  Many of the topics covered in our training classes are consolidated into this week-long format.


Introduction to GIS

This is the our first class in a series of courses that will cover the foundational concepts related to GIS. Some of these topics may include, but are not limited to: Data models, projections, geocoding, cartography, web GIS


Introduction to ArcGIS

This class will supplement the content in the Introduction to GIS course. The primary focus of this class is for the student to learn the basics of the ArcGIS Desktop interface and to gain some practical experience related to: Data symbolization, queries, Geodatabases, using external GIS data, metadata


Managing Data

This class will dive into the details of creating and managing your own data. If you need to create your own data or consolidate data from multiple sources, this is the class for you. Topics covered will include: creating layers, topology, re-projecting data, georectification, acquiring external data


Mapping Data

This course will focus on the analysis of raster and vector datasets. Various types of analysis will be covered including: Raster, network and grid cell analysis


ESRI Online Training

Through the University's ESRI Site License, faculty, staff and students have access to some of the ESRI online training.  Here is a list of some of the courses that are available.  If you are interested in any of these courses, contact Kevin Remington to obtain a key code.
