2016 Field Training Course

Come & Learn Underwater Site Documentation with The MRD

The Field Training Course has returned and has been restructured.  We will be offering two sessions this year, both will cover the same material so that you will have more chances to participate.

This one-day course will walk you through the basics of site documentation and site reporting. You will participate in two dives, work with other team members to map and document an archaeological site, and prepare a site report.

To participate you must have an open water dive certification. We will be working in low visibility, as we do in most South Carolina waters.  Low and no visibility experience is requested but not required, however, you will need to be mentally prepared to dive in no visibility.

You must carry your own dive insurance (DAN offers low cost policies) and you must provide your own SCUBA gear. Tanks and archaeological equipment will be provided. You are also responsible for your own food and accommodations. This course will take place in the Charleston Area.

This course will fill up fast, we have space for a maximum of 12 students per session. The course cost is 45 dollars per person and is due no later than 5 days before the start of the course. Please contact Jessica Irwin ( if you are interested.

We can also schedule an additional date if you have a group of at least 8 people who would like to participate.
