MRD Events

2017 Calendar is now Available!

This year we have restructured our events. Rather than do one event a month we will be doing 4 large events per year.  Rather than have a wing night every month we will be partnering with different organizations around the state to have larger events that will bring you to new places and to meet people you may not have otherwise.

We will be moving around the state all year long. The new schedule will be as follows:

Feb 22: Charleston Wing Night @ Kick’in Chicken in West Ashley

April 26: Columbia Wing Night

June: Georgetown

July: Beaufort

October: Oyster Roast!

We will also have the following events available to interested groups:

Artifact Identification Workshops: These workshops range in cost from 40-60 dollars per person. Artifact Identification Workshops are designed to help you identify what you find, to assist you in further research and to show you all that our state offers. The first will be offered in Charleston on March 18th from 9-3. The price will be 35 dollars and will include lunch.  Tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/artifact-identification-workshop-tickets-31845153712

Field Training Course: This course is a two-part course over two weekends during the year. The Field Training Course teaches archaeological methods underwater so that individual divers can learn to document archaeological sites as well as sharpen their dive skills.  We will be offering two sections of Field Training Part One this year. They will both be held at a new venue: Trophy Lakes. The first session will be offered on April 8th and 9th and the second session will be held on September 9th and 10th. Tickets will also be available via Eventbrite.com.

Public Talks: Do you have a group that would love to hear about South Carolina History. You can request an archaeologist from our team to come and speak to your group about a variety of topics. These topics include information about the Hobby Diving Program, current research, past research, or what archaeology is and how we do it.
