Although much of the South has a tradition of ghost stories, Georgetown
is considered to be one of the most haunted locations in the South.

tales of the living dead or disembodied spirits. Ghost stories have a
way of captivating the audience like no other, and perhaps it is the experience
of a good scare that keeps the storyteller telling the legend and members
of the audience remembering it, thus keeping the story part of the tradition.
Of course, without written documentation of the oral tradition, it's nearly
impossible to tell just how old a tale really is.

So how is a ghost story born? "Usually, for there to be a ghost story, there has to be a tragedy…Someone passes away unexpectedly,
due to unrequited love, or war, or something with passionate feelings," says Huntsinger. She gave the example of Alice BeLaine Flagg,

a widely-known Georgetown legend concerning the death of a real woman over a hundred years ago. Both Huntsinger and Vermont told the
USC students this story, which they then compiled into a single tale.
